Congratulations! You’ve chosen the right wood flooring for your project. Now what? It’s important that you are correctly prepping your space before installation. By having a clean workspace, it allows your installers to be more efficient with their time and allows for less damage to your personal belongings. Here’s a quick guide on how to prepare for hardwood flooring installation.
Clear the space:
Remove everything from the space or room. This includes rugs, furniture, art, decorations, electronics, and wall fixtures. Take anything that is moveable and placed on the current flooring, out of the room. For items that cannot be removed from the space, use sheets, dropcloths, or any coverings to help protect it from damage. You will want an empty space with clear access to make hardwood flooring installation more straightforward.
Dust and noise:
It is common that residual dust occurs during hardwood flooring installation. You can prepare your home by closing off other rooms of the house to try and confine the dust. Opening windows during installation (when applicable), helps with ventilating dust and odors.
Ask your installer:
Check with your hardwood flooring installer for any tips and tricks that are specific to the product they are installing. Does the hardwood need to acclimate before installation? At what temperature? A professional hardwood flooring installer will be able to tell you what the recommended indoor temperature range and humidity levels are as well as be able to address any moisture issues.
Post installation:
After your hardwood flooring has been installed, you’ll want to give it time before you start walking on it. Your flooring will need time to settle before introducing furniture back into the space. Make sure to read our guide on how to clean and care for your hardwood flooring.
